Visitors flock to Lake Tahoe
for winter skiing; however, astute travelers recognize the North
Lake Tahoe as a superb venue for California beach activities. We were entranced with all the options: sandy beaches, hiking, sailing, power
boating, mountain biking, and kayaking.
Dive into the Lake Tahoe’s Visitor’s Bureau Website. There’s
an incredible array of beautiful on-site pictures, links for community
resources, Lake Tahoe lodging and dining choices, as well as an excellent
overview of Lake Tahoe beach action choices.
We enjoyed Sand Harbor
State Park along the eastern shore.
There’s a long, sloping sandy beaches for families. Pristine waters and rocky coves offer great
scuba and snorkeling. After a short,
scenic hike along Sand Point Nature Trail, we enjoyed a picnic at the fully
equipped, covered area. Reservations are
a must. For fishing, diving, and
boating, we recommend Cave Rock
State Park. Travel Guides list the
diving as “spectacular and well worth the small entry fee.” Dive Flags are required at Cave Rock.
Virtual Tahoe
offers the most comprehensive list of North Lake Tahoe
lodging and dining options. Located
within walking distance of a private beach and marina, we were enchanted with
the Alpenrose Inn, a quaint,
European flavored B&B. Staying in
the Tahoe Cabin, we enjoyed the kitchenette facility. It’s a short walk to the Casino, and North Lake Tahoe is offers a wide range of night life.
