- Commodore Park is located north of U. S. Highway 90 in small triangle of property bounded by Second St. and Beach Blvd. The park planted with native flora and fauna faces the Bay of St. Louis and overlooks the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club harbor and beach. This mini-park offers public benches for vista views and views of yacht club regatta activities. French explorers, led by Pierre le Moyne d'Iberville and his brother Jean Baptiste le Moyne Bienville, came to claim the Gulf Coast area for King Louis XIV in April, 1699. d'Ibverville, finding the calm, beautiful bay too shallow for his ships, decided to locate his settlement in what is currently Ocean Springs.
