The girls and I had the day to ourselves so we thought we'd visit Makalawena Beach because it was raved about in our guidebook. 5.0: Fabulous Beach !

Makalawena is a fabulous beach though it does take some effort to get to. It is a couple of miles north of Kona Airport. If you are going north on Queen K Highway (Hwy 19), after you go past the airport watch for a sign that says "Kekaha Kai State Park".
