been to the southernmost spot, but missed the "point"
the road to Ka Lae is long and bumpy, but hey - you've got a rental! It gets a bit eerie when you get to the wind farm - so out of place and some missing fins... In search for the Green Sand
I wanted to see the green sand beach and new that there was a hie involved. But the trip to go see it didn't seem worth it after a while. We drove so far that we got to another part of South Point Road. When we finally got to the parking for the Green Sand Beach, we still had to get down and hike... Green Sand Beach, Reaaly!
Go to south point and visit green sand beach. You will be gald you did. Rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle and go. Most people hike back to the beach. Awe Inspiring
I wouldn't recommend driving down to South Point in an economy or convertible rental car, but if you have something that can handle rougher roads, this is an interesting journey to make. Glad to have the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 X 4
If you're going to the Big Island..make sure that you visit South Point..and if you've got some money to burn, make sure you get the 4-wheel drive...and while the Jeep Wrangler's are popular, I'd advise the Grand Cherokee...both South Point and Volcanoes National Park (along Chain of Craters Road... cbearden, a user of Tripadvisor. Take Hawaii Belt Road (HI-11) south. Turn down South Point Road and follow it 12 miles to the coast.
