Sausalito’s positioning at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge makes this tranquil oceanfront community the perfect choice for California Beach Activities. Travel Guides laud Sausalito’s dual personality:  busy tourist shops, galleries, and café visits complemented by tranquil evenings at the Marin Headlands or peaceful morning breakfasts before “day-trippers” arrive.

Our best advice for the best Sausalito Beach Vacation: Plan to stay over!  Experience Sausalito like a native.  A complete range of accommodations starts with the most budget friendly Marin Headlands Hostel. At the other end of the spectrum, we appreciated the elegance and tradition at historic Gables Inn.  The attentive staff welcomes you with complimentary wine and cheese, followed by breakfast buffet the next morning.

Sausalito Area Beach Activities include surfboarding, swimming, hiking, gathering previous stones, and sunbathing.  Some beaches get very crowded by mid-day, so if you like to enjoy some solitude, come early or stay late—the sunsets are an event.  The National Park Service maintains excellent reference material about Sausalito’s Rodeo Beach, part of Fort Custer.  One area of this beach is reserved for nude sunbathing.  We preferred the family-friendly Muir Beach.  Here, Sausalito Travel Activities include whale watching, Monarch butterfly migration in the fall, and picnicking, with barbeques, tables and restrooms available.  Travel Guides highlight Slide Ranch.  Kids love the hands-on activities:  milking goats; “helping” honey bees; petting baby lambs; feeding chickens and gathering their eggs.

Let the Sausalito City Chamber plan your Sausalito California Beach Vacation!
