Mendocino is located in Northern California and its beaches differ greatly from your typical white sand tropical beaches. Mendocino beaches are more rugged and full of hidden coves, giving them a wild natural beauty. You can take a sunset horseback ride along the beach or just sit and contemplate the powerful Pacific. With their beautiful settings and plethora of activities, Mendocino beaches are a "must" on your list of things to do in the area. But, be warned...Northern California has very cold water, so Mendocino beaches are not ideal for swimming. If you are brave enough to try, be sure and wear a wetsuit!

A particularly unique spot in Mendocino is Glass Beach.  Almost 60 years ago, its location was the site of a dumping ground. In the late 1960’s, people protested the dumping and had the area protected. Over the years, nature has been given free reign and has transformed the dump site into what is now Glass Beach. The accumulated bottles and glass containers left over from the "dumping days" have been polished and smoothed by the waves and sand. This has resulted in colorful glass fragments that appear throughout the beach; small jeweled offerings from the sand.

Glass Beach is truly a remarkable place to visit. Don't forget your camera and make sure that you are wearing shoes! Parking and entrance are free.

From affordable to luxury, deal with private owners directly to find the perfect Mendocino vacation rental on the beach.
