Although Arcadia is landlocked, there’s a great selection of nearby beaches. Malibu is straight west, with Topanga Beach topping our list.  Is surfing or sun-bathing your passion?  Topanga Beach is world-class, with lifeguards on duty during the day.  Malibu Lagoon State Beach is another great choice for surfers, fishermen, and wildlife enthusiasts.  Bonanza’s Dan Blocker and Lorne Green invested in a half-mile stretch of Malibu beachfront with Michael Landon, so there’s even a Dan Blocker beach!  Point Dume Beach is great for wind-surfing, scuba, swimming, surfing and whale watching in the off-season.  Another great stop in the Malibu area is Zuma Beach County Park with nearly 3 miles of sandy beach.  We’ve found it’s best to pay a few dollars for parking here.  The City of Malibu’s website offers excellent links to area beaches.

Further south, Santa Monica offers a stunning 3.5 mile stretch of beachfront, with lifeguards, equipment rentals, handicapped-accessibility, and nearby bike and walking trails.  Kids of all ages are thrilled to spot dolphins playing in the surf.  Santa Monica’s world-famous Muscle Beach sports impressive athletic equipment, enjoyed by celebrities since the 1930’s.  Are you a sports enthusiast?  Santa Monica is the place for you! Check their on-line offerings.
