Waikiki From Diamond Head

Waikiki From Diamond Head

It is common knowledge that locals know where the best beaches are, such was the case for Waikiki Beach during a time when Hawaiian royalty ruled the islands. Waikiki was chosen as the site for the Iolani Palace inhabited by King Kalakaua, it is the only piece of royal real estate in all of the United States. Today Waikiki is one of the most famous beaches in the world, primarily because it is one of those beaches that you never forget – even if you have only seen it in a photograph.

The water is soothingly warm and the amazing fusion of urban life and nature is striking. It is little wonder that resorts picked up as much beach real estate as they could when they could. Needless to say one would be hard pressed not to find accommodations on Waikiki.

Waikiki Beach At Night

Life is very easy going on this beach, even the surfing is chill – the waves are not big at all. You’ll find a lot of families here with the little ones dipping their feet into the Pacific with smiles smeared across their faces. If you are looking for a ‘get-away-from-all-the-craziness” kind of setting, Waikiki may not be for you – unless you are on a private resort that is.

At night, Honolulu’s lights come to life and illuminates a new facet of Waikiki. It is the perfect place for a walk after dinner and is never short of beautiful.

Set against Diamond Head, one of the world’s most well known volcanic craters, Waikiki is like a dream reminiscent of old films based on the stereotypical remote islands with a fearsome volcano in the background. These days you will find yourself enjoying people watching and making sure you keep that sun burn as calm as the waves.
