Redondo Beach – on the Riviera in Los Angeles, California
Just south of its more famous sister beaches of Manhattan and Hermosa, lies Redondo Beach, a fantastic, friendly beach. Redondo Beach is a new discovery for my family – we have been visiting Manhattan Beach for years and decided to try out Redondo on our last visit.
On our visit, we enjoyed playing in the gentle surf, watching the volleyball players (are all Southern California beaches required to have beach volleyball courts?!), and building sand structures. Since we were on vacation, we did not have our usual beach arsenal, and made due with plastic cups and spoons from breakfast.
Redondo Beach is south of the Redondo Beach Pier, and north of Palos Verdes. Along the beach runs a paved path, perfect for skating and running. Redondo Beach has been featured in the O.C., a popular television program with great scenes of the South Bay. You might even see some stars!
Surrounded by the Riviera district of Redondo Beach, you will find many dining options within walking distance of the beach. In addition, check out the nearby Trader Joes for beach snacks and quick lunch.
The beach is way below street level, but there are paved paths that take you down to the beach. Lifeguards are on duty, generally in the summer. Parking is available in paid parking lot at the south end, on Paseo de la Playa, or you can try your luck with street parking (bring your quarters).
